Judy Sutton
Judy is a member of Local Colour Art Group, Manitoba Society of Artists, Assiniboine South Art Group and the Selkirk Community Art Group and East of the Red Artists. She is the Winnipeg representative and hostess for Leading Edge Art Workshops, and her artwork has been greatly influenced by the many fine artist-teachers that have come to Winnipeg to share their expertise. In recent years she has been privileged to paint with and learn from Brent Laycock, Linda Kemp, Michael O’Toole, David Langevin, Karin Isinberg, Mike Svob, Rex Beanland and many others.
A hard working member of the local art community, Judy helped organize Art Rocks for six years, served on the boards of Local Colour and the Selkirk Art Group, helped to organize artists in her home community and displays the work of three local artists each month in the East St. Paul Municipal Hall. When the well known artists come to Winnipeg for Leading Edge workshops, Judy likes to gift them with a book or other work done by a local artist so that even the most famous guest will want to trumpet Winnipeg’s talented art community.
Judy has shown her work with pride in local art shows including Art Expo, MSA juried shows, Local Colour Art Shows, Selkirk all-member shows, East St. Paul Municipal Hall and in her home during East of the Red Artists’ Studio Tours. She has been privileged to share her artwork in solo shows at Gwen Fox Gallery and the Piano Nobile Gallery.
In her first career as a music teacher, Judy passionately promoted the joy and beauty of music. Now she uses brushes and acrylic paint to express her joie de vivre and appreciation for nature. She paints the rhythm, colors and textures of life. Her paintings flow with movement and vitality and dazzle with colors that sing. When we look at Judy’s paintings we may be ‘surprised by joy’. This is ‘feel good’ art that nourishes the soul, because it has been seasoned with joy.
